A Sure Shot Way to Find Better Clients And Eliminate The Unpleasant Ones
Stop dealing with clients who dilute your experience of feeling delightful about your work
This is the 153rd consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
Introduction
What is the toughest thing about being a business/ sales professional?
Considering you’re reading his note, it’s safe to assume that you’d agree to the simple fact that dealing with difficult clients who are extremely difficult to please, who keep looking for more deliverables or kee stretching their needs makes the entire process of dealing with them very unpleasant (to say the least).
Business/ managing careers is already so difficult.
Dealing with roles and responsibilities, taxes, market forces, constant challenges one after another always tend to keep the plate full.
Dealing with an unpleasant client only manages to consume a lot more energy than you’d like to expend.
So, let’s talk about how to deal with the situation of unpleasant clients once and for all.
How to solve this problem?
More often than not, a business deals with a difficult/ unpleasant client only because the business is highly dependent on the business/ revenues that the particular client(s) generate.
The only way to deal with this situation is to find leverage against these clients.
Creating a situation wherein you take the control of the situation back in your hands.
How do you do that?
Just find a client who is ready to pay your business rather than the unpleasant client.
If you feel “this is easier said than done” you need to work on your mindset or maybe you need a (new) mentor.
Make sure you find the link and connect with me.
In any case, this is the only quick, practical and feasible solution.
Evaluate your product/ services/ offer.
Based on the experiences in business since the last time when you’d designed the offer, find new areas/ gaps which your business is now capable of fulfilling (that it wasn’t when the last offer was designed).
Your current changes in the skill sets, your time in the business, your new experiences, etc. contribute towards a well deserved raise in your business.
Trouble is, more often than not, businesses/ professionals/ teams get complacent and continue to deal with difficult clients, rather than finding ways to replace unpleasant clients with the new ones.
Once my consulting client asked me a question, “Hey Manish, what’s the guarantee that the experience with the new client(s) will be pleasant?”
To which my simple answer was:
“First of all, I don’t like the negative approach and the way you’re approaching this.
Secondly, even if you manage to manifest yet another unpleasant client, that should be a signal to introspect and figure out what it is that you/ your brand is doing wrong to attract so many incorrect clients/ leads into your sales process.
Thirdly, even if you do end up with an unpleasant client, at least this client is paying you more than your earlier unpleasant client, and that in itself makes it worth the effort to replace them with the earlier client.”
Conclusion
If you still haven’t started working on refining the offer for your business, I’m not exactly sure, what are you waiting for.
If you’re a business owner or a sales professional who is struggling to attract meetings with high quality clients or if you’d just like to refine your offer for sale for your brand/ business feel free to reach out to me and let’s connect.
