Building a product today isn’t about rushing to launch or investing huge sums upfront.
The smartest entrepreneurs follow a logical and systematic process that helps them test, validate, and scale without wasting time or money.
Here’s the step-by-step process you can use to build a product that your target audience actually wants:
01 - Build an MVP (minimum viable product)
Don’t spend months perfecting a product that may not even be needed.
Start small. Create a minimum viable product (MVP). A basic version that solves the core problem.
This helps you test the idea quickly and gather real feedback before investing further.
02 - Create a landing page
Your landing page is the first impression of your product.
Even before you start building, create a clear, simple page that communicates:
- What your product does
- Who it helps
- Why someone should care
This landing page becomes your testing ground to measure interest and conversions.
03 - Build a waitlist of 200+ users
Before launch, your goal is to collect a waitlist of at least 200 people who are genuinely interested.
This gives you an audience to test with and ensures you don’t launch to silence.
04 - Interview a handful of users
Numbers are important, but conversations are gold.
Interview a few waitlist members to understand their:
- Pain points
- Expectations
- Current alternatives they are using
This step uncovers hidden insights that data alone can’t provide.
05 - Use feedback to improve (and add features)
If your interviews confirm there’s a real problem worth solving, build the solution as quickly as possible.
Then use ongoing customer feedback to:
- Fix issues fast
- Add features people actually ask for
- Avoid unnecessary complexity
This cycle helps you create a product that grows with your audience’s needs.
06 - Rinse and repeat until you hit MRR goals
Don’t stop after one round.
The most successful startups follow a rinse-and-repeat cycle:
- Launch small
- Gather feedback
- Improve
- Relaunch
Until you consistently hit your monthly recurring revenue (MRR) targets.
