New Perspective: You Need To Choose Your Mentor Depending on Your Status Quo
You don’t always need the most popular option to get all the answers
Imagine entering the first day of the final year of high school and the teacher hands you over books of PhD?
(May sound bizarre, but this is happening ALL THE TIME on social media)
If you're a freelancer, business owner it's a given that you need a mentor to progress in life.
However, nobody teaches us "how to choose a mentor?" for yourself... Until now.
First, let's understand the essential milestones of any journey.
These milestones are applicable to all important aspects of life like romance, business, health, career, etc.
The milestones are:
0 to 1 = Start
1 to 10 = Stability
11 to 100 = Scale
Now, if you don't know what stage at, that's the first thing you must get clarity on.
Where do you stand and what do the three milestones look like for your end goal.
Depending on what stage you're at, you should look for mentors/ consume content/ read books which help you strengthen your position at your current level and allow you to create a platform that allows you to advance to the next milestone.
It's so common to look at people who are planning to start a business watching endless hours of content about how to design SOPs/ manage a team of 73 people, etc.
You can't learn how to derive valuation of a company if you don't understand the significance and how to execute simple debit/ credit entries in your books of accounts.
When looking for a mentor, it's very easy to get enamoured by someone who's achieved epitome of success in your industry. However, make sure they're grounded enough to help you kickstart your journey.
More often than not, you'd be better off, if you find someone who specialises in helping people in your stage and assists them achieve success at the current stage, and help you elevate yourself to the next stage.
Do you agree to this chain of thought?
Have you ever invested in a mentor that was not right for you?
