Most Marketable Skill In 2024 Is Also The Most Underrated
Not mastering this skill is causing your career/ business more damage than you know
A soon to graduate college student asked me which skill set should he master?
(My answer may end up shocking you)
I'd like you to take a moment and guess what was my answer?
How would you answer this question?
What is that one skill that can have a positive impact on EVERY career/ business, irrespective of the industry?
Let's try this.
Go ahead and post your answer in the comments and let's see if you and I are on the same page!
I hope you did answer the question!
Anyway, my answer to this question is: STORYTELLING
Yes! Storytelling is a skill.
Yes, this is a skill that you can (read: must) learn and master.
You know why I think so?
Storytelling gives you a very powerful edge over others. Humans are psychologically wired to listen to people who are good storytellers.
Storytelling as a skill set will make you better in the following aspects of life.
01. Communication - Isn't this a given? A storyteller knows how to read the room and narrates the story in a manner where they grab attention of the audience and lead the conversation pretty naturally and effortlessly.
02. Marketing - Content creation, newsletter and community building, copywriting is all about grabbing the attention of the audience and sharing your message. What better (read: easier and effective) way to grab the attention of your audience, if not stories?
03. Sales - A storyteller would be an excellent salesperson (with proper training and practice), because in effect, sales are all about understanding the needs of the prospect and telling them a story of how the purchase will make their life better/ easier.
04. Leadership - You want to progress in your career/ business? What better way than to build a team that's aligned with your values, understands the goals of the organisation and works as unit to achieve the set goals.
All storytellers may not become good leaders, but all great leaders are exceptional storytellers.
05. Self-confidence - When you manage to grow in your career/ business in a multi-faceted environment, over time you're bound to unleash a very secure, suave and an extremely assertive version of yourself which will help the world to look at you in the right light.
These personality traits go a long way to build your self-confidence.
Not to forget, a person with the right amount of self-confidence practically holds the keys to unlock every lock of opportunity that life brings in their way.
So, what do you think?
Did I give the right suggestion to the student?
Can't wait to read your thoughts. Now, it's your turn to tell me what do you think?
