Introduction
Look closely and you will find common patterns in the way successful people work (read: get work done).
You will find their businesses/ teams working almost like clockwork. The systems are laid, motivated people who are happy to work in their respective processes are getting the job done, things are working smoothly almost in an orchestrated manner.
What is the secret? How do they do it?
Let’s double click on this thought and find out.
Situation
Even if you don’t know how to cook, for the next few minutes we will assume that you know how to cook.
Cool?
With that out of the way, let’s continue
You’re hosting a party, how many people can you cook for?
5?
10?
15?
20?
How about 50?
Did you feel the stress levels increasing as I kept adding to the number?
However, what if I now tell you, you’re a chef working in a restaurant.
Do you realise immediately your confidence went through the roof and a number like 50 that was giving you palpitations a few seconds ago now feels like a child’s play?
What changed?
How does this change overlap with the “definite factor that guarantees outstanding success”?
Are Winners Born or Made?
Before I tell you what my answer is, I want you to contemplate on this question and come up with your answer before you continue reading.
I think I have an absolutely solid answer to this question.
My answer is winners aren’t born. Winners are made.
To be more precise, winners are trained.
Only when a player who is good at a particular sport undergoes years of training, competitions, tournaments do we get a winner.
Only when a student in a hotel & hospitality management institute undergoes years of training, works for years in a professional kitchen do they get the skill and the confidence needed to cook for a large set of demanding guests/ diners.
The definite factor that guarantees success is tireless hours, days, weeks, months, quarters, years and sometimes even decades of practice.
I’ve said this multiple times, and I reiterate, only when you love what you do and bring your 100% with absolute love to your work/ business/ kitchen/ studio/ workshop/ classroom everyday will you get anywhere closer to being at the top 1-5% of your industry.
Being really good the best at what you do requires practice, dedication, and endless hours of reps.
If you don’t enjoy what you do, the repetitions which are the secret sauce of unlocking great success feels boring, monotonous, tedious, etc.
But, when you love what you do, you feel energised, vibrant, lively after a long day at work.
These long days at work overtime give you the speed, efficiency, tactical edge and vast database of knowledge that’s impossible to replicate by others.
Your hours on the job become your experience, your experience becomes your edge, and your edge becomes the factor that makes you stand out from all others, who are in the same arena/ industry/ domain as yours.
