One Edge That is Impossible to Replicate When Done Right: Experience
The compounded benefit of experience is absolutely magical, to say the least.
This is the 176th consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
Introduction
Imagine a situation. You need an expert opinion. This could be an opinion from a doctor, a lawyer, a chartered accountant, etc.
If I give you an option between the topper of the current batch who have just passed out vs. a professional who has been working for the last 3 decades.
Let me add a simple rider. The services of the professional with 3 decades of experience is at least 25% more expensive than the fresher.
Who would you choose to consult with?
I hope in all probabilities you chose the professional with more experience over the topper.
Let’s double click on this idea and understand why the person with more experience is a better choice in your situation.
The Impossible Edge
Experience and domain expertise give you an edge.
A person who has cooked noodles 5 days in a row, for the last 10 years will cook you a serving of noodles which could make your heart skip a beat.
It’s just noodles. But, the experience of making noodles across seasons, over years in all conditions makes you unbeatable at your job.
Experience and repeating your reps gives you an inside edge on how to do something in a version that’s closest to perfection every time.
The chef who has been cooking noodles for a decade knows how to tweak the recipe by adding 2 tablespoons more oil, or tossing the noodles for an extra 60 seconds on the wok, if the day is extremely humid, or if it’s raining outside.
The devil has always been and will remain in the details and nuances.
Unfortunately the details and nuances are impossible to master without having paid your dues with experience.
Look carefully and you may realise why it’s so common to come across people nowadays who are struggling with their business/ careers.
In the search for the most perfect opportunity which is in sync with one’s passion, are we losing out on the most important factor (time) that helps us unlock the edge of nuance and details?
Share this with someone you know who’s trying really hard to optimise their career/ business and needs to finalise their area of expertise at the earliest.
Conclusion
The writing is on the wall. The sooner you find an industry that is of your liking and if you’d really give your work your best, you’re going to become invincible in your own right.
If you’re someone who’s still looking for your area of expertise where you’d like to create your business/ career in, I hope this note has given you enough reason/motivation to start working on your personal brand on an immediate basis.
If you’re someone who is sure about the industry that you’re operating in and if you’d like to add an unbeatable edge to your work profile, you need to gain experience and make sure you’re also building a unique personal brand for yourself. How do you do that? I can help you with that. If you’d like to consult with me 1:1, feel free to reach out to me and let’s connect.
