One Question To Ask and Easily Determine If You're on The Right Path
So, how happy do you really think are you? Let’s figure out.
This is the 133rd consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
Introduction
Tuesday was a very confusing day for me.
I came across the exact same idea in 4 different ways on the exact same day.
I started my day by watching a spiritual video on YouTube and the speaker planted this seed in my mind.
I was watching an interview post lunch when the interviewer asked the same question in a different variation to the guest (who is a stalwart from the world of food and beverages industry)
I host the weekly meetings for my community at Paycheck To Profit, and during the conversation one of the participants from my community ended up asking me the same question.
By the time the question was posed to me, I was stunned by the coincidence, but we aren’t done yet.
At the end of the day, I was listening to a podcast (yes, I consume an unreasonable amount of conversational content) where the topic of the same question came up.
So, call this a coincidence, or just call this sign, but I knew I had to share this question and the perspective with you and the rest of the community, so here goes.
The Question
The question may put you at ease on an almost immediate basis, or it may get you unsettled.
But I must say, this is a very important question, and the moment you have a clear and affirmative answer to this question, you will start experiencing a much better quality of life on an almost immediate basis.
The question is…
Would you be happy after a decade from now if you continue doing what today?
Think about this question.
Think carefully.
I’d like you to think about the answer to this question from multiple angles/ aspects of life, before you continue reading the rest of the post.
What if your answer is a Yes?
Many congratulations.
You’re fortunate and gifted if your answer to this question is affirmative.
Isn’t this a good place to be in?
Of course there are going to be challenges, but challenges are a part of life.
The idea is, when you’re living a life where you feel confident about the direction of your journey, that affirmation brings with itself a lot of contentment, peace and happiness.
I’d suggest you keep working on maintaining this status quo and keep challenging yourself in some aspect of your life that will only allow you to upgrade the current state of mind and allow you to unlock more success, one step at time.
What if your answer is a No?
Well, let me start by telling you, it’s perfectly alright if your answer is a no at the moment.
I’m not saying this out of sympathy, but from a place of absolute understanding and compassion.
Let me tell you something. It takes courage to answer this question with a no.
It’s not easy to accept that you’re not happy.
But then, only people who accept that they’re not happy find the strength to go out and look for clarity.
How can I say this with so much confidence?
I’ve been in your shoes.
I’ve been through a divorce which confirms I know what being unhappy in one of the most important relationships feels like.
I’ve failed at business in the past, I’ve switched jobs, walked out of a business partnership because I wasn’t happy with how life felt when things weren’t working out.
I’ve also been through a weight loss journey because I felt unhappy with my body and how it made me look/ feel.
Life is all about change and change begins with acceptance, the right intention and dedication towards execution.
You have accepted that you need change.
You’re already on your journey.
Now it’s all about setting the right intent and working towards executing the change
My answer
The shortest way to express my state of mind with regards to this question is a strong and resounding yes.
I was filled with gratitude when my student/ participant asked me this question because that gave me the bandwidth and the space to think about this question for myself.
The coincidence of the question coming to me twice on the same day was not lost on me, but when the participant asked the question point blank, I knew I had to give her the most accurate answer because I’d never lie/ deceive my participants.
However, after the Q&A session ended, when I was journaling the process, that’s when I realised that finding the right path has taken me almost a decade and in retrospect, I’ve nothing but gratitude for my journey, because at the end, if this journey has brought me to being so confident about the path of my life ahead, that’s a price I’m happy to pay (in retrospect).
Conclusion
I’d just like to conclude by reminding you to stay hopeful and keep walking.
Life has strange ways of taking us to our destinations.
More often than not, some of these destinations are so beautiful, they’re so much better than what we had imagined for ourselves, while we were in the process.
I can say this with a lot of confidence, humility and empathy.
