Power Of Passion: Love Your Work To Fuel Unstoppable Success
Beyond the Myth of Hard Work: The True Secret to Sustained Success and Fulfilment
Introduction
If I were a career guidance coach. I’d be in a very boring job.
Are you wondering why?
Let me tell you.
I say this because more often than not, my reply/ consulting for my clients would be extremely predictable.
My content would more or less always say the same/ similar things.
When my clients would approach me and say they’re not happy with their work, my answer would be the same… You’re not happy because you don’t love your job. Please find yourself an opportunity that you’d love.
When they would tell me that they’re not excited to go to work on most mornings, my answer would be the same… You’re not excited because you don’t love your job. Please find yourself an opportunity that you’d love.
When they would tell me that they’re earning great paychecks, but they’re not sure if this is the right opportunity for them, my answer would be the same… You’re confused because you don’t love your job. Please find yourself an opportunity that you’d love.
You get the drift.
But let’s dive a little deeper and discover why most (if not all) problems associated with work/ business life boil down to the subject of “people not loving their job”.
The Myth of Hard Work
One of the most flawed reasons why people are unhappy with their career/ business is because we were brought up in the ecosystem that shared the archaic rules and principles of success with us.
The first principles of success remain the same, but the way they play out in the playing field in today’s times is totally different.
Let me explain.
One of the first principles of success is that you’re supposed to find leverage in a situation and it’s optimising on the leverage that leads you to success.
I think there could be some people who will not understand this statement in its full essence, so let me explain it in simpler words for the benefit of everyone who’s being generous and giving their time to this post/ note.
Imagine you have to lift 100 boxes of 10 kgs each from the ground floor to the third floor of a building.
You could make 100 trips or maybe 50 trips if you can lift 20 kgs in one go, OR, you could put all the boxes in an elevator and make the experience a lot easier for yourself.
In this situation, the use of an elevator is the leverage.
Over a century ago, one of the most prominent ways to create success for yourself was to leverage on hard work.
Success for most people could be correlated to the amount of hard work they put into the process to derive the desired result.
For a very long time, outworking someone was the only way to build leverage.
Although hard work will never be replaced, there are so many factors today that we can leverage on and carve out a success story for ourselves.
The Power of Passion
Passion and career/business generally don’t get a good rep. That’s only because people tend to over-optimize or give too much preference to passion.
Let’s clear this confusion once and for all.
Passion is a great element to the equation of success, but it’s not a minimum requirement.
Hard work, skill, leadership, persistence, and continuous learning can over the long run make up for lack of passion in the life of a successful person.
But passion by itself can’t replace even a single element of the previous statement.
Having said that, I truly believe that success without passion feels incomplete and doesn’t bring true contentment.
Let’s double click on that idea in the next section
The Benefits of Loving Your Work:
When you’re passionate about what you’re doing, you tend to be ahead of the curve, in general.
You stay updated with what’s new.
You don’t mind putting in the extra hours because work doesn’t feel like work.
Learning new skills, networking with people within the industry/ area of expertise, doing research feels fulfilling and not energy draining.
In simple words, when passion is infused with the right attitude of discipline and consistent effort in the right direction, that creates an invincible cocktail of success and happiness.
Conclusion
Nobody can “guarantee” success, but I can guarantee one thing, probability of success and happiness is the highest when you infuse the right amount of head and heart into every mission.
While you can learn the skill of almost all the jobs, you may discover that you are above average in multiple areas/ aspects, but you will feel a strong pull only in a few areas of life which are your areas of interests and a profitable business/ career that you can/ must commit to.
I hope you find something that you’re really skilled at and that it also brings you a lot of joy, fulfilment and contentment.
