Risk, Reward, And The Business Owner's Dilemma
Business doesn't fail people. People with fear fail businesses
This is the 258th consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
Introduction
I recently met a friend who said he wanted to start a new business.
But before he put in even a single rupee as investment, I could already tell... He’s not ready to be a business owner.
Why?
Because the very first question he asked me was,
Friend (F): “Manish, should I set up another passive income source while I build this business?”
If You're Thinking Like This, Please Don't Start a Business
The Problem With That Question
So I asked him:
Manish (M): “If you believe this business can be a game-changer, why are you preparing for failure before you’ve even started?”
F: “What if the business fails?”
And that, right there, is the red flag.
Red flag, explained
Business Is Not for the Timid
If your first instinct is to build a backup, instead of backing your own idea with confidence, then business might not be for you.
Because the truth is:
Business is full of risk, you will make mistakes, you will lose money, you will face chaos, you will need to pivot, and a lot more.
And if you’re not mentally ready to handle that, you’re better off not starting.
A Better Path for You
If this sounds like you, here’s a suggestion:
Get a great job aligned with your skills, give it your 100%, learn leadership and people management, grow in your career and make a name for yourself, and invest your salary wisely in safe, compounding assets.
Do this consistently for 7–10 years, and you will reach financial freedom without ever going through the stress of entrepreneurship.
Business Isn’t a Backup Plan — It’s War
You can’t treat business like a Plan B with side hustle energy.
It demands obsession, grit, sacrifice, long-term thinking, and an unshakable belief in what you’re building.
If you don’t have that yet, it’s okay.
But don’t jump into business with a fragile mindset — it will crush you.
