The Only Explanation You Need To Decode Imposter Syndrome
Destroy imposter syndrome once and for all
This is the 152nd consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
What is imposter syndrome?
In simple words, imposter syndrome is a situation wherein a person can feel that they have the will and the potential to achieve a big goal, but the lack of experience and fear of failure just stops them from taking the necessary steps that could lead to a positive result.
Before I couple click on the other aspects on this subject, let me state that this is an absolutely normal, natural and a common phenomenon.
If you feel you’re someone who’s dealing with imposter syndrome, you don’t have to feel guilty about it.
However, please read the rest of the post carefully, because this could be the only post you need to read, if you’re genuinely serious about dealing with your imposter syndrome.
Why does it happen?
The internet is full of content that tries to tell you multiple reasons why someone feels imposter syndrome.
However, what’s important to understand is when you actually decode all the data about imposter syndrome, you will find that there’s only one reason that leads to imposter syndrome and that reason is…
Lack of experience.
People dealing with imposter syndrome deal with fear, anxiety, and uneasiness because they constantly try to compare themselves (while they are standing at square 01) with people who are already working/ established in the industry (someone who could be anywhere on the board from square 05 to 95).
When you compare yourself to someone who’s miles ahead of you, feeling scared is absolutely natural (and obvious). It would be strange if someone is comparing themself with a well established person in the industry and if they don’t feel even a slight amount of nervousness.
How to deal with it?
Feeling like an imposter is natural, however staying in the zone of imposter syndrome beyond a couple of days is a choice.
Yes. You read that right.
I said what I said, and someone had to say it to you.
If you’ve been dealing with imposter syndrome for any time period beyond a couple of weeks, you’re in the zone for far too long.
Imagine imposter syndrome to be a pain in your chest. Would you tolerate it for more than a couple of minutes?
So, what explanation do you have to deal with your imposter syndrome for all these days/ weeks/ months/ years/ (I’m afraid to type this word) decades?
The only practical way to deal with imposter syndrome is to seek and get help.
Find yourself an expert/ consultant/ coach/ mentor who’s been in the shoes of people who are ahead of you in the journey.
Let this coach guide you the way.
You need to come up with a roadmap which is absolutely customized to your needs and your goals.
Then this coach/ mentor needs to help you walk on the path and provide you with support as and when you’d need it.
If you’re still not convinced, it's best if you just accept to yourself that the goal you’re trying to achieve, that goal that’s been giving you the anxiety/ stress which has now graduated to being this imposter syndrome was never an actual wish, but a fantasy/ desire which you secretly you were never serious about.
But then, something tells me, if you’re still reading, it wasn’t really just a whim. I know you’re scared, but not taking the first step (and finding yourself a coach/ mentor) is a lot easier than continuing to endure this absolutely unnecessary pain.
