Stop Wasting Your Time by Building an Insanely Complex Business
Sometimes, even the simplest ideas can help turn your business into a unicorn
Starting a business is a lot easier than you think/ imagine.
(Look for the first small idea and solve the smallest problem)
When we think of a new startup, most people tend to make a common mistake.
You don't need to solve the most complex problem in the room.
You don't need to create a solution that will cater to a target market of millions of people.
Want to start? Start today by solving one problem for one specific set of audience.
Take Zomato for an example.
The biggest food delivery platform of India didn't start with the business of food delivery/ restaurant bookings.
Deepinder Goyal (founder of Zomato) was working in a consulting firm.
The office didn't have a pantry/ canteen, but there were paper menus of over 70-80 restaurants that would be lying around in the lunch-break area.
The team members would hound over these flyers around lunch time, and Deepinder came up with an idea.
One weekend, he came to office, scanned the menus of these restaurants and uploaded the files on the local area network.
One time process, and the problem was solved for good.
Based on this idea, Zomato was started. Zomato started as a restaurant listing platform.
This same idea got Deepinder and team their first investor cheque.
Of course, a lot has changed since then.
Zomato has evolved a couple of times and maybe the company will look completely different (from what it is today) 10 years down the road.
However, the one thing I want you to take away from this example, is that you need to start with a simple idea.
Look for a problem that is affecting you and people who are close to you.
Solve the problem for them. Get them onboard and then ask the same people for more ideas/ feedback on how to improve the product.
Once you have attention of a set of people, growth, pivots, new ideas are all about communication, iteration, testing and execution.
So, what simple problem are you inspired to solve?
