The #1 Misstep That Can Kill Your Personal Brand (and How to Avoid it)
Always own your audience and your intellectual property if you want to make it big in business
This is the 197th consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
Personal Brand & Social Media Platforms
The relationship of a content creator and a social media platform is BROKEN!
Imagine if you watch a movie, but you can connect with the cast and crew, the makers of that movie only in the cinema halls.
The moment you’re out of the cinema hall, you can’t connect with the filmmakers and the filmmakers and the actors can never connect with you.
Just the sound of that is preposterous, right?
But now consider this. Isn’t this how social media works?
You create a piece of content, and your audience can connect with you, only until they’re interacting with your content on that platform.
As a result, you’re losing connection with 95% of your audience.
It’s high time you change this, once and for all.
Personal Brand & Your Audience
The only way to make it big and create a long term career/ business out of your content is to start owning your audience.
How do you do that? By moving them out of your social media profiles and getting them to share their information with you.
You need to create a community, a newsletter list, a database of your audience.
What you also need to do is to find a way to convert your content into an intellectual property.
Your content stays on a platform, but an intellectual property (example: a podcast with multiple episodes on a particular niche and very specific target audience) can be moved across platforms.
Unless and until you don’t find a way to create a database of your audience and at least one intellectual property, you’re wasting the potential of the audience you’re building on the social media platform(s) where you’re creating content.
I’m purposely just scratching the surface of this situation in this note. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me, or drop your questions in the comments below.
