The One Non-Negotiable for Success & Profit = Content Creation
It’s going to be impossible to grow a business/ career without becoming a content creator. Here’s why!
This is the 141st consecutive post on MrEmogical Notes. If you’ve been following this series and are finding value from this blog/ newsletter, please consider sharing this post with one person who you feel needs to read this for their betterment.
Introduction
Is fashion static or does it change with season?
Of course it changes with every season.
Are the movies/ music artists that were popular in the 1980s still just as popular?
I’d be shocked if today’s generation can even identify these pop-culture gems by their name.
When everything is bound to change. Why do we assume that the rules, format and the expectations of business would remain the same across decades?
Let’s double click on this idea and let’s see what you unfold about (your) business by the end of the note.
Business of the archaic past
Traditional businesses were small, local and simple.
Small because they would cater to customers within a small geographical location.
Businesses were predominantly local, because how could a small business owner cater to the people in the next pin code, leave alone the next city (or even further)
Businesses were simple because the business would offer a product/ service and the customer would come with limited expectations, buy what was being offered, pay for the value derived and life would continue.
Business of the past
Over time, business became comparatively large, catered to a larger geographical region and for lack of a better word… multilayered.
Businesses could now offer multiple options to the customers for similar products from competing brands at competitive prices and with a wide list of features and benefits to compare and choose from.
With the advent of internet and ecommerce, the businesses who were pragmatic chose to cater to a larger geographic location for the customer depending on the nature of the business.
Businesses became multilayered because now the customer had the choice to pay through cash/ debit card/ credit card, etc.
Business of the present
Business today is limitless, omnipresent and multilayered (with more options)
Today, the business doesn’t decide which products-customers to cater to, today, the customer decides what product they’re looking for and if your business is present at the channel of the customer’s choice, your business will end up getting a sale.
Your business today has the capacity and the capability to cater to customers anywhere in the globe. Today the geographical presence of your business is dependent on your capital availability and your skillset(s).
Today, most businesses have lost the option to demand payment from a particular mode of transaction. A business worth their salt will have to offer payment by cash, cards of multiple payment partners, apps, and options to make payments in 3/6/12 instalments as the customer would ask for.
Business of the near future
Business in the future will be niche, digital and simple.
Today, the customer asks what options the business/ store/ business owner provides.
In the future, since availability of products will be so ubiquitous, you will decide and hand-pick products that you would like to offer to your customers, depending on your area of interest and/ or expertise.
The entire business will be digital (most businesses already are).
Business will be simple because your business will generate demand for itself through social media content, and marketing that your business undertakes.
Yes. This is not optional. All business owners will have to invest time, effort and energy in marketing and content creation.
That would be the only way for your customers to find you.
How will businesses become simple?
Since you will curate and decide what products to sell, and your business will be entirely digital, your customer will pay you in advance before you ship the product/ deliver the service. The infrastructure of digital businesses is already in place for most areas in the world.
Businesses that will perish (and why?)
The answer to this question is very easy, but disheartening.
Disheartening because I see millions of businesses perishing.
I say that because irrespective of the business, the niche, the geographic location, the industry you hail from, unless you’re not ready to start creating digital marketing content for your business, you might as well start looking for an alternative career/ job for yourself.
Call me brutal/ rude/ insensitive, but it’s better to read the truth on the internet than to experience this first hand in life for yourself/ your business.
Conclusion
The conclusion to this is rather logical and straightforward. Start creating content for your business today.
