We are slowly walking towards a world where the amount of money you make will be directly proportional to your skills.
However, if there is one skill that’s going to be the biggest differentiator it has to be the skill that I’m going to talk about in this post.
I believe the power of this one skill is so profound, in an ideal world, I’d want students to learn only this one skill and then choose a career of their choice.
How will that equation work?
Well, I will explain that later in the post.
However, before I jump to sharing the most important skill, it’s very important to give you a clear….
Disclaimer
I believe most (read: 80% careers can be built after learning on the job skills), however for certifications and educational degree oriented careers like becoming a doctor, lawyer, engineer, architect, etc. this skill is a requirement, but not enough.
People/ students who aspire a career in the industries mentioned earlier will have to get their respective college degrees, but must definitely also learn….
The most important skill
Now with the disclaimer out of the way, let’s talk about the most important skill in the world.
It has to be… business/ formal storytelling.
I know some of the readers may roll their eyes when they read it, but in the world where artificial intelligence is going to have a direct impact on every career in the world, business/ formal storytelling is going to be an absolute savior.
When you learn the skill of storytelling, you learn to master multiple soft skills like critical thinking, clear communications, empathetic problem solving, looking for creative solutions, thinking out of the box etc.
Practicing the skill of business/ formal storytelling is a superpower benefit of which compound with every use.
Now you must be wondering what about all the other skills?
Well, look at reports from major research agencies from around the world and you will observe a disturbing trend.
The quality of college graduates is becoming more and more unemployable with every passing year.
Companies are finding it extremely difficult to hire graduates who are a natural fit into the work culture of their business, and hence they end up training and teaching these professionals on a fresh note, after they hire candidates who manage to show at least some hope.
When a student saves 2-3 years of not having to go to college and learning archaic skills from outdated reference materials, they won’t just save time, but they will enter the workforce faster and they will get more time with the reputable brands who will work on transforming their personality through investments in training.
However, when a candidate learns and masters the skill of business/ formal storytelling, they are getting a skill for life.
Conclusion
Irrespective of your age/ industry/ years of experience that you come from, if you haven’t learned the art of business storytelling, now is the best time to start investing in learning this skill.
