Introduction
When it comes to creating products, there are only two schools of thought:
01 - Launch something new every season.
02 - Design something timeless that stays relevant for decades.
Both have their place. Both can work, depending on your business model.
But implement the second ideology correctly, and that’s where legends are born.
Timeless Design: A Few Iconic Examples
If you want to understand what it means to create something that stands the test of time, just look around:
Coca-Cola Contour Bottle — Designed in 1915. Still iconic today.
Levi’s 501 Jeans — The same rugged fit since the late 1800s.
Ray-Ban Aviators — Born in 1937, still topping the fashion charts.
Rolex Submariner — Launched in 1953, only subtle tweaks ever since.
Vespa Scooters — Since 1946, that classic rounded design is unmistakable.
Zippo Lighters — The same flip-top magic since the 1930s.
Hermès Birkin Bag — Luxury unchanged since the 1980s.
Stanley Thermos Bottles — Still rugged, green, and unbeatable since 1913.
KitchenAid Stand Mixer — Introduced in 1919, instantly recognizable even now.
Why Timeless Wins (Most of the Time)
01 - It builds loyalty. People fall in love with consistency.
02 - It becomes a symbol. Your design becomes your brand.
03 - It simplifies your business. No constant reinvention is needed.
04 - It creates a legacy. You’re remembered long after trends fade.
If you get it right, your product doesn't just sell— it lives, breathes, and becomes culture.
Choose Wisely
Ask yourself:
Do you want to play the trend game?
Or do you want to play the legacy game?
Neither answer is wrong.
But they are very, very different paths.
Choose based on the business — and life — you want to build.
