Life Can Either Be Easy OR .... What Do You Choose?
Your decision determines the direction of your life, so choose well.
Life is all about the choices you make and the decisions you take.
Today I’m going to tell you about two choices that life brings to you all the time, and if you build the habit of choosing one habit over the other, the trajectory of your life will be decided by this one decision.
No terms and conditions.
No negotiations.
Imagine making up your mind and choosing one option that assures winning results, more often than not.
The choices that present to you are:
1. The easy option/ the easy way out, OR
2. The road less taken (read: the one that’s worth it)
Let’s try and understand this with a simple example.
In 2025, if you were to start a new business, what business do you think will get you better results (in the long run):
Option A: A franchisee of a quick service restaurant, OR
Option B: Starting a new food business and creating a brand that holds the capacity to become a food chain with hundreds (if not thousands) of locations worldwide?
Isn’t the answer to which business has more chances of becoming really big clear?
Of course, a new brand has an endless potential to grow.
A franchisee business is predictable revenue, as long as the franchise owner is intelligent enough to pick up the franchisee of the right brand and run the business diligently.
But how many branches/ locations can a single franchisee owner start and operate (successfully)?
Not more than a couple.
But now let’s look at this same situation from a different lens. The lens of difficulty.
Which business is far more difficult to run, operate and scale?
Obviously, option B.
It takes a year to start a new food business, build a brand that’s recognised by the customer, and create a product-market fit for a new food business to be termed successful and become a legacy brand.
A new food business will have to compete with existing food businesses, find a way to get noticed by the target customer, find ways to get the customer to the store, create a menu, options, and offers that entice the walk-in customers/customers trying to order on the food delivery app, service these customers satisfactorily, enure high customer repeat at the store, maintain the food quality, service levels, team management…
All of this to achieve success at a single store level.
And this is just the start.
Next, you have to create processes, kitchens, systems to expand operations to multiple stores and ensure that other locations are managing to operate profitably as well.
We are just getting started.
Once you have a couple of stores which are operational (and profitable), that’s when the business moves to the next level of creating policies and processes to select, on-board, train and generate profitable locations for franchisee aspects of the business.
Once this level is achieved, that’s when the business starts to scale and make profits (which are worth celebrating).
Not to forget, right from the business setup stage to the scaling stage, the business will have to keep dealing with endless challenges which are multi fold to the number of challenges a single store/ franchise operator will ever have to deal with.
So, now, the choice is yours. Depending on your life/ domain/ area of expertise, what do you choose? The (comparatively) easy route, or the route that challenges you at every step, but when it pays, it's worth every challenge that you have managed to overcome on your journey.
When you make up your mind and choose the more difficult route, you are setting yourself up for a slew of challenges one after another, but that’s just how massive success works.
You can’t generate uncommon results (and profits) by walking on the most common roads.
Always evaluate the long-term benefits, and if the fruit of the future tastes sweet, always choose the more difficult option.
The following step-by-step process will help you with your journey of growth
1. Make a long-term decision, even (read: especially) if it's difficult
2. Set your vision; on the end goal
3. Be prepared to be tested (because you will be tested, without fail)
4. Keep your attitude in check (when you’re being tested), and
5. Once you sail through the challenges you face and cross the finishing line, all your past challenges will become memories that you will cherish (and be proud of)
Make this the mantra of your life for all important aspects of your life like health, relationships, career, wealth building, etc.
Always evaluate the long-term results of the difficult choices and make the difficult choice.
Make this your second nature.
Make this a part of your identity.
A few years down the line, you would have covered more distance than your peers will cover over the next few decades.
What are your thoughts about what you have just read?
Do you agree with this chain of thought?
Can you recollect (and would like to share) an incident where you chose the more difficult option and life paid back for your dedication and courage?
