Your Favourite Content Creator is Leaving Big Money on The Table. Go Grab It!
Your favourite creator’s loss could be your biggest gain!
Life of a content creator
Have you ever heard/ seen the statement, “Life of a content creator is so easy. They just have to make content, meet cool people, go to fancy events, get paid for promotions, get cool PR packages, and that’s it.”
Let’s try to dig into the truth (or lack thereof) in this misconception.
Let’s just double click on one aspect of that statement, “They just have to make content”
Let’s just try and figure out what are some of the tasks that a creator would have to do, to just make content, shall we?
Let’s go!
- Come up with a new and unique idea
- Script/ ideate on how to execute that idea
- Rehearse the idea (if needed)
- Get ready for the shoot (which includes outfits, lights, cameras, team, location, props)
- Shoot the content
- Edit the content
- Write captions
- Post the content
- Share the content across other platforms
- Generate interest by interacting with the comments
- Rinse. Repeat
How easy does this sound?
I could go on, and tell you there are just the same number of steps; if not more, in every other factor in the life of the content creator (meet cool people, go to fancy events, get paid for promotions, get cool PR packages).
As the following of a creator grows, after one point, it becomes impossible to deal with the overwhelming number of comments/ DMs/ brand collaborations, opportunities, etc.
Challenges of a large content creator?
I know this may sound extremely frivolous to some people, but managing comments, DMs, trolling, work related calls, messages, emails, team management, priority management, public appearances, travel for work commitments does get impossible to manage beyond one point.
That’s when every creator will slip, and that’s precisely where you need to step in and find the voice of the customer.
What is the voice of the customer?
For the uninitiated, the voice of the customer is a term used in the marketing domain. It talks about the needs/ requirements of the market that are not being fulfilled by the existing products that are available in the market.
In the case of content creators, the voice of the customer is the unanswered comments, questions that go unresolved and feedback that gets slipped from the creator’s radar.
As the following of the creator keeps getting larger, the image and the reach of the creator increases, many creators fail to see the gap between expectations of the audience and the content being delivered.
This is where an aspiring, enterprising and a strategic creator in the making can end up creating a market (read: build a loyal audience base) for themself.
Their loss your personal brand’s gain
As a content creator, you need to learn to start thinking exactly like a business owner.
Your content is your product, and the (unattended/ unanswered) comments on posts of other content creators is your goldmine.
You need to find the top 5-10 top content creators in your niche, and you need to scout for information, ideas, nuances, feedback, and needs of the customer (the audience of the big creator).
You make sure that you incorporate these points in your content and deliver content that answers the burning questions of audiences of your favourite creator, and this is going to be the best content creation training school/ university for your personal brand
3 easy tips to capitalize on this trend
To make your job even easier, here are three tips to extract maximum value from the voice of customer idea/ strategy:
1. Look for ideas in videos/ content which is less than 1 month old. Creators get so overwhelmed with comments, their focus is on the new content and the comment on the older content is the first place where they start slipping (for obvious reasons).
2. When you find a comment/ question where you can share a meaningful/ helpful opinion, reply back and solve the query for the person who has posted the comment. People tend to check profiles of people who write helpful comments. That way you may also end up gaining a new loyal lifetime subscriber.
3. Get into the habit of reading comments often. You will always find new ideas, so make sure you never let go of this habit to extract gold in form of ideas, views, subscribers, irrespective of how large your personal brand gets.
Your thoughts!
Do you agree with this idea?
Do you think you can extract dozens of ideas from the content of other creators?
Would you like to add some more perspective to this ideology?
