Want To Start a Business A Decade from Now? Start With This Today
The one mistake I made setting up my business that you must avoid at all costs
When I was in the process of setting up my business (Paycheck To Profit), I felt a lot of entrepreneurs are creating content pieces just for the hype.
One of the evergreen subjects that you will see very often is, “the biggest mistake I made while setting up my business.”
I used to think, “how is it possible that every entrepreneur makes mistakes on their journey to success?”
In retrospect, I realize that more often than not, the business owner will make far more mistakes than the number of things they will do correctly.
That’s just the nature of the beast that is “setting up and running a business”.
It’s tough, it’s demanding, it’s (for lack of a better word) brutal and it’s unforgiving.
When setting up a business, you will have to:
- keep experimenting with new ideas all the time
- stay ahead of the curve
- find interesting ways to stay connected and relevant with your (target) audience, and
- build a community.
You may feel I’m exaggerating when I say this, but today, this is essential for every business, irrespective of the size of your business, the industry, the market that you operate in and for all demographics.
Today, your customers are using a smartphone and are plugged in on the internet 24*7*365
Not creating content is a surefire way for your business to nosedive sooner than later.
But you don’t have to worry, because there’s a solution to this situation.
The solution (depending on how you look at it) is a lot simpler than you think.
Start creating content today.
Yes. I’m not joking.
Even if you’re not sure about when you will start a business, start creating content today.
Don’t have a brand name for a business (understandable because the business doesn’t exist), yet start building content, today.
Not sure if you will even start a business in the future? Doesn’t matter, start building content today.
The only thing you need to know is the industry that you will eventually focus on.
The moment you have clarity on the broad strokes of the industry/ domain/ area of expertise you wish to grow your career in/ start a business in, that’s all that you need to start creating content.
I knew way back in 2018, that I want to get into the coaching industry, and I wish to connect with people and teach them about money/ financial literacy/ investments in some way/ form.
Had I remained consistent with my content creation journey, so many things would have become easier for me.
With every piece of content you post, you keep getting better, you gain more confidence, your content reaches an audience (however small), you understand how to use the platforms better, the platforms start taking you (and your work) a lot more seriously as you continue to make more content over time.
The long-term benefits of creating content are immeasurable, and the long-term pitfalls of not creating content and building a community of loyal followers is unbearable for most new businesses.
Even if one person understands the importance of this post and starts posting content, I’d feel that this post has achieved its purpose.
