The Real Magic of Social Media Is When You Build a Library of Content
Every piece of content adds up. Start today
The worst part about content creation is the amount of content you have to create!
However, the absolute best part about content is the leverage you gain due the obnoxiously high amount of content you create.
Confused about what you just read?
Make sure you read this note till the end, and you will understand exactly what I’m trying to say.
First things first, today it may seem like there are more content creators in the world, than the total number of humans on the planet.
Let me clarify this myth for you, so that we can be on the same page for the rest of the post.
“There are more content creators in the world, than the total number of humans on the planet.”
This statement is far from the truth, and I promise you it will remain true till the end of time.
Content creation has a very low entry barrier
In simple words, that means that any person with access to a smartphone and a camera can “technically” become a content creator.
But then, haven’t we all had access to a smartphone and internet for almost 15 odd years now?
Why didn’t most of us end up becoming writers/ bloggers?
Low barrier of entry doesn’t mean that just because anybody can become a content creator, they will choose to go down that route.
However, another fact of life and society today is that posting content is the quickest way to get your dopamine hit in the form of likes/ shares/ comments/ appreciation and who doesn’t like to get noticed?
But this is where the challenge actually begins.
In the spirit of keeping this post easy to read, let me just touch upon just a few factors that you need to master (over time) to make it big in the world of content creation:
1. Absolute clarity of your niche
2. Absolute clarity of your target audience (which is large enough)
3. Absolute clarity of your positioning (90% creators are clueless about this)
4. A crystal clear content plan for at least 90-100 days
5. Creating (which means scripting, shooting, editing, writing captions) & posting content (consistently)
6. Understanding analytics
7. Community building
8. Pivoting on the basis of feedback received
9. Learning how to not get affected by negative comments (and to grow a thicker skin)
10. Learning how to create a marketing/ sales funnel around your content that allows you monetise your content and not be dependent on social media platforms/ ads revenue as your source of income.
This is merely the tip of the iceberg.
At every step you will learn how to write better scripts, get more confident as you face the camera, be natural while connecting with your audience, not getting affected (and learning) from pieces of content that underperform, etc.
Are you now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel?
I say the light at the end of the tunnel because you’re still reading.
Most people who started reading this note have already gotten scared and shut the tab.
But this is where your true advantage is actually hidden.
Let’s revisit the statements I mentioned at the start of the note.
The worst part about content creation is the amount of content you have to create!
However, the absolute best part about content is the leverage you gain due the obnoxiously high amount of content you create.
You will not be good when you start posting content on social media. You will fumble, make mistakes, post content that will make you question every frame, etc.
However, with every instance when you press upload, you will also gain a lot of confidence.
Out of the troll comments that you get, a few comments will also end up giving you the feedback you need to refine your content.
Once you get addicted to creating content, the magic of distribution starts acting in your favour.
Every like/ subscribe/ comment/ share count.
Every interaction metric adds up.
You start refining your skill. You start hating your content a little less.
Sooner than you know, you will actually start enjoying the process of content creation and talking to the camera.
You will become a better version of yourself, you will feel more confident, and you will learn how to tune out the trolls.
And that’s when the numbers start adding up.
This is when you have already started being counted among the best names in your niche/ area of expertise.
This is the level I want you to start visualizing and this is the level I want you to unlock for yourself.
If you did manage to read this post till this point, I request you to please drop a comment and ask me your questions/ share your feedback.
